Great Smoky Mountains National ParkThe Great Smoky Mountains National Park is our most popular national park, with approximately 10,000,000 visitors per year! The 517,000 acres of virgin forest contained in The Smokies constitute roughly 90% of the remaining undeveloped, old growth forest in the East. The park is home to 120 different species of trees, 1,800 species of plants, 2,000 species of mushrooms, 26 species of salamanders, and numerous species of birds, mammals & assorted reptiles. The Smokies contain the most extensively maintained trail system in the country, with over 900 miles of trail for hikers and horseback riders.
